PLAY at Kidville: Indoor Camping for Families!

Camping is such a fun way to bond with your family, however you might not be a “roughin’ it” crew (especially with small kids!), so here’s a fun way to CAMP indoors!

Pitch your tent in the living room. If you have a tent, you can go ahead and set that up. If not, build a tent using sheets and make it nice and cozy with pillows and blankets (maybe even an inflatable air mattress?)

For help, we like this DIY Living Room Fort Tutorial.

For ULTIMATE comfort, build the tent around your bed. 🙂

Part of the fun in camping is not having electricity so here’s a challenge for the family: NO ELECTRONICS! That means phones, tablets, tvs, or lights! Try using candles, lanterns & flashlights!

Once you’re all settled into your camp site, it’s time to start camping!

HAVE A PICNIC DINNER
There isn’t a stove but you can make sandwiches! Or have something “packed” to eat together out in the living room.

SHADOW PUPPETS
Using your flashlight and the tent as a backdrop, make shadow puppets using your fingers. Encourage the little ones to make up stories!

STORIES & S’MORES

Light candles or tea lights and tell ghost stories (or silly stories depending on the ages of the campers) around the camp fire!

Toast marshmallows over a tea light or candle using skewers to make a complete camping experience. Add chocolate and graham crackers. Repeat!

DRAWING & COLORING

Bust out the crayons and colored pencils and have a drawing and coloring session.

BED TIME STORIES & SING-A-LONG

Serenade each other or have mom & dad read to the family from a favorite book!

After your sing-a-long it’s time for candles and flash-lights out! After all that fun, you’ll be sure to sleep snug as a bug in a rug…er..tent.

HAPPY CAMPING!
